Forsythia is a very easy plant to care for and its early spring blooms make a dramatic focal point. Here are a couple of tips for how to make your forsythia perform its best.

  1. Full sun – Forsythia need at least 6 hours of sun a day to bloom at its full potential.
  2. Well-drained soil – Well-drained soil is a must for forsythia bushes. For optimal performance, add mulch to add organic matter to the soil.
  3. Water – Water your forsythia regularly, they prefer well-drained soil but they need up to 2 inches of water a week.
  4. Fertilizer – Fertilize your forsythia every 2-3 months in the spring and summer only.
  5. Prune – Prune forsythia yearly, right after their bloom in the spring.
