Indian Hawthorn

Indian Hawthorn (Raphiolepis) are versatile shrubs with handsome flowers and fruit that can be used as a low hedge or planted as a compact foundation plant. Their deep green, glossy evergreen leaves produce a lovely, compact mounding form. In the spring, blooms can be pink or white.

Standard Indian Hawthorn varieties can reach 3 – 5’ H x 3 – 5’ W in full to partial sun.

Water new shrubs regularly until they are well-established.

Fertilize the shrub in the spring and fall with a light general purpose fertilizer.

There is no need to prune the Indian Hawthorn aside from aesthetics.

Standard Varieties –  Standard varieties of Indian Hawthorne shrubs grow to around 3-4 feet tall and 6-8 feet wide. A popular standard variety is Majestic Beauty which features bright white and pink flowers.

Dwarf Varieties – Dwarf varieties of Indian Hawthorn grows anywhere from 1-3 feet tall.  Dwarf varieties are often used for ornamental planting rather than foundational shrubbery.  Several popular dwarf Indian Hawthorn varieties are “Fascination”, “Clara” and Springtime” all of which feature thick evergreen foliage and clusters of pink or white flowers.
