Muhly Grass (muhlenbergia capillaris)

This ornamental grass is a huge favorite in the South because of its elegant display of pink or white “feathers”, beginning in the late summer and into the fall. The clouds of pink or white atop this grass are eye-catching, particularly when the sun is shining through it.

Muhly grass grows to about 3-4 feet in height and width. The best way to show it off is by planting in groups, or “drifts.” Muhly grass is useful for softening hard edges, such as walls or structures or heavy plantings of evergreens.
