Paperwhites

Are you looking for an easy way to make the season bright? Forcing bulbs is a beautiful way to cheer up any space with fresh flowers. We recommend trying this method with paperwhites!

Paperwhites are one of the easiest bulbs to force because they can be grown without soil and they don’t require pre-chilling. You simply need water, gravel, and a two- to four-inch glass dish to hold the bulbs. After a few weeks, the bulbs will grow 12 to 18” long stems featuring clusters of fragrant white flowers.

Visit us at Fairview Garden Center to find paperwhite bulbs and everything you need to force the bulbs indoors! You’ll love using these festive flowers to decorate your home throughout the holiday season. They also make the perfect gift to bring along to holiday parties and family gatherings.

  • Paperwhites can be grown indoors from bulbs.
  • Each paperwhite bulb will produce clusters of fragrant flowers.
  • Flowers bloom on 12-18” long stems.
  • First, fill a container halfway with pebbles. Then place the bulbs close together, but not touching, on the gravel with the pointed side up.
  • Add more pebbles to cover the bottom third of the bulbs. Fill with water until the surface is just below the bottom of the bulbs.
  • Keep the bulbs in a dark, cool room until roots form and check the water level often.
  • Once you have a good root system in place, you can move your paperwhite bulbs to a sunny location.
  • Expect to see blooms in three to five weeks.
