Switch Grass (panicum virgatum)

Switch grass is a perennial, ornamental grass native to North America. It’s prized for its colorful foliage and plumage, which intensifies in the fall. Some of the colors you will see are green, blue-green, yellow, red and burgundy. The colors are particularly stunning when the sun shines through it.

Depending on the variety, it grow anywhere from 3 to 6 feet tall and 2 to 3 feet wide. As with many ornamental grasses, switch grass looks best when planted en masse.

Switch grass is deer resistant, but attractive to birds and butterflies.
