Ferns

Perennial ferns are a favorite for shady areas and woodland gardens. Their delicate looking foliage make them a great option for adding some color and texture to the landscape and container plantings. Depending on the variety, you’ll find bright green leaves, stunning silver-grey leaves, and even colorful reddish purple stems.

Some ferns are evergreen, while others die back in the winter then emerge again in the spring. While it depends on the variety, most ferns will tolerate various degrees of morning sun if they receive adequate water.

We recommend using evergreen ferns mixed with other perennials and annuals in containers for all year enjoyment. A few of our favorite evergreen ferns are: Autumn fern (Dryopteris) Holly fern (Cyrtomium) Tassel fern (Polystichum polyble pharum) and Christmas fern (Polystichum acrostichoides).
