Verbena is another large plant family that includes both annuals and perennials. Bees and butterflies love them in all their beautiful shades of purple, red, pink and white. Verbena’s do best during the hot weather and in full sun. Some, like creeping verbena, grow and spread low to the ground; others, like Brazilian verbena, can grow as tall as four or five feet!

  • Somewhat drought tolerant, and it certainly doesn’t like boggy conditions.
  • Do not under water.
  • They do appreciate a monthly application of balanced flower fertilizer to help them keep up the flower show.
  • If humidity is high in your area in summer, choose perennial verbena for a better summer show.
  • You’ll want to locate this plant where it gets eight to 10 hours of sun each day.
