Fittonia

Fittonia, also known as the Nerve Plant, Mosaic Plant or Net Plant is normally grown as a houseplant. The most common found vein color is silvery-white, however, varieties are found in red, pink, white, and green. The nerve plant is a low-growing creeper with trailing characteristics making it ideal for terrariums, hanging baskets, and dish gardens. It typically grows to a height of 3 to 6 inches with a trailing spread of 12 to 18 inches. And, although it rarely flowers when grown as an indoor houseplant, it may bloom with reddish or yellow-white spikes.

  • Filtered indirect sun or part shade.  Do not place in direct full sunlight. It prefers bright, indirect sun, such as that offered by north-facing windows. It will also do well under fluorescent lights.
  • Grows well in standard potting soil with a peat-moss mixture. The soil should retain some moisture but  needs to drain well.
  • Keep Fittonia at a 60-70 degree F temperature, so grow in a warm area of the house, avoiding cold drafts which will shock the plant.
  • Since Fittonia likes and prefers a humid environment to thrive,  a bathroom with enough light would be an ideal location.
